Creating and Editing Audio and Video for the Classroom

Description:

Because this course involves so much time creating Internet resources, it is designed as a hybrid course, with 18 hours of face-to-face meetings and 27 hours of on-line work. Students will learn to create dynamic multimedia with both sound and video. This includes podcasts, vodcasts, screencasts as well as standard audio and video presentations. No experience is necessary. Time outside of class will be spent creating projects which can be used in any classroom setting.

During this session, students will listen to various different audio productions from the web and will select one audio file to use in a lesson.


 

Fieldwork (3 hours) By August 13th


 

Students will create lesson plans from  the audio they located in a lesson and will report back on the results.

Students will learn to record, edit and add special effects to audio using the free open-source program called Audiacity. Skills covered include

Recording audio

Cutting and pasting sections of a file

Adding special effects

Adding music

Adding sound effects

Time shifting tracks

Using volume envelopes

bullet

Saving and Exporting audio material

bullet

Posting audio material to the World Wide Web.

Students will know and understand basic ethics and copyright law pertaining to posting student created material.

Students will create their own audio files either for their classes or with their classes.

Students will create a video for use with their students or will complete a video project with a class to show here.

Students will discuss the ethical and legal implications of sharing video on-line.
