The NOAA Scientist

As a NOAA scientist, you have a tough job.  You know that many people's livelihoods depend on your recommendation.  You also know that the fishery may be in danger and you need to act to lower the quota in the Pollock fishery before it is too late.  You have industry people trying to save their jobs and you have environmental groups who are trying to save a species of fish.  YOU have to try to bring them all together to agree on a quota.  Your recommendation must be based on responsible science.  You have to be sensitive to the thousands of people effected by your recommendation, but you can't let the fishery decline!  Here is what you know:

The quota for 2006 was 1,500,000 tons of Pollock.  You are concerned that the species has been greatly impacted.  You propose that the quota be somewhere between 600,000 and 800,000 tons per year.

Good Luck!
